Top Workplaces 2025

Top Workplaces is the annual list of 250 top workplaces in the DMV region surveyed by Energage and published by The Washington Post.

Duties:
Handle art direction of the cover and inside illustrations for the annual Top Workplaces magazine, layout print spreads, assist with web presentation

About the theme:
When the concept of “uncertainty” was selected for this issue of the magazine, there was an uneasiness in the air in the business community; as Trump signed executive orders quickly, we did not know if we had a man in charge who would bring prosperity with his ideas or confusion. Now, we see the word uncertainty everywhere- in headlines, in stories, in business plans. Success is not possible with the old rules because new rules are being drawn. Businesses that have lasted over 100 years in this country have experienced many versions of uncertainty- through war, economic ups and downs, changes in climate, the MeToo movement- the list goes on.

Duties:
As an editor-in-chief of The Blackprint magazine, I directed artistic and editorial content of biannual print editions on a strict publishing deadline while also supervising the regular uploads of web content.

Highlights:

  • Responsible for all spreads in December 2019 issue.

  • Over 500+ copies of each issue were distributed.

  • Started an art submission drive for students of color on campus.

My goals as EIC:
Earlier editions of the magazine relied heavily on stock imagery. My vision was to have it feature as much student art and photography as we could. Creating the art submission drive brought in a wider interest and readership from around campus. It also gave students an opportunity to have their work published even if they were not writers or magazine staff members.
