Hi there!
I’m Alexis.

I am a designer for the Washington Post working on both print and digital products.

Prior to joining The Post, I was an engagement editor for the audience team at USA TODAY. I moved into that role full-time after finishing a fellowship with the USA TODAY visuals department as a motion graphic and video editor.

I am an alumna of American University with a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism and graphic design.

My previous work experience includes being the in-house graphic designer and web design specialist for AU’s Center for Research, Teaching and Learning.

I also had the opportunity to hone my reporting skills as intern on the NPR education desk and at the HuffPost politics bureau. Most of my work focuses on how politics and policy affect minority and underrepresented communities. My range of skills include writing, reporting, video production and photography, as well as graphic and motion design.

Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.
— Maya Angelou

On campus, I served as one of the editors-in-chief of The Blackprint, a publication for students of color. I was a Logistics Producer for College Nation, a short form content show produced by ATV, our video and broadcast club. I was also elected as co-director of the student media organizations. I oversaw major functions gained administrative skills such as budgeting, cross-organization collaborations and events planning in that role.

My goals for the future include finding ways to combine passions for news and design to create informative and engaging content. My personal motto is "hustle and heart" because I am all about hard work that I can put my passion behind.
